Rose Quotations
What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. William Shakespeare I once had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue: no good in a bed, but fine up against a wall. Eleanor Roosevelt One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today. Dale Carnegie A single rose can be my garden... a single friend, my world. Leo Buscaglia Look back over the past, with its changing empires that rose and fell, and you can foresee the future, too. Marcus Aurelius The first man to compare the cheeks of a young woman to a rose was obviously a poet; the first to repeat it was possibly an idiot. Salvador Dali But friendship is the breathing rose, with sweets in every fold. Oliver Wendell Holmes You are responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your rose. Antoine de Saint-Exupery She had already allowed her delectable lover to pluck that flower which, so different from the rose to which it is nevertheless sometimes compared, has not the same faculty of being reborn each spring. Marquis de Sade In real life, unlike in Shakespeare, the sweetness of the rose depends upon the name it bears. Things are not only what they are. They are, in very important respects, what they seem to be. Hubert H. Humphrey |
