Pride Quotations
Tonight, we gather to affirm the greatness of our nation - not because of the height of our skyscrapers, or the power of our military, or the size of our economy. Our pride is based on a very simple premise, summed up in a declaration made over two hundred years ago. Barack Obama A man who is eating or lying with his wife or preparing to go to sleep in humility, thankfulness and temperance, is, by Christian standards, in an infinitely higher state than one who is listening to Bach or reading Plato in a state of pride. C. S. Lewis Generosity is giving more than you can, and pride is taking less than you need. Kahlil Gibran Anger is the enemy of non-violence and pride is a monster that swallows it up. Mohandas Gandhi He didn't come out of my belly, but my God, I've made his bones, because I've attended to every meal, and how he sleeps, and the fact that he swims like a fish because I took him to the ocean. I'm so proud of all those things. But he is my biggest pride. John Lennon Nothing has been purchased more dearly than the little bit of reason and sense of freedom which now constitutes our pride. Friedrich Nietzsche Our vanity is hardest to wound precisely when our pride has just been wounded. Friedrich Nietzsche All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin. And therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words "Ich bin ein Berliner!" John F. Kennedy There can be no greater error than to expect, or calculate, upon real favors from nation to nation. It is an illusion which experience must cure, which a just pride ought to discard. George Washington My pride fell with my fortunes. William Shakespeare |
