Crocodile
A large reptile of the genus Crocodilus, of several species. They grow to the length of sixteen or eighteen feet, and inhabit the large rivers of Africa, Asia, and America. The eggs, laid in the sand, are hatched by the sun's heat. The best known species is that of the Nile (C. vulgaris, or C. Niloticus). The Florida crocodile (C. Americanus) is much less common than the alligator and has longer jaws. The name is also sometimes applied to the species of other related genera, as the gavial and the alligator. A fallacious dilemma, mythically supposed to have been first used by a crocodile. They're on the way out, no matter what anyone does or says, you know. Steve Irwin Every cent we earn from Crocodile Hunter goes straight back into conservation. Every single cent. Steve Irwin The first crocodile I ever caught was at nine years of age, and it was a rescue. Steve Irwin I put a bullet into the back of the crocodile's neck just behind the head, thus killing it. If a crocodile is hit in any other part of its anatomy it disappears into the water and is irrecoverable. Louis Leakey I found in one of the tombs an inscription saying, 'If you touch my tomb, you will be eaten by a crocodile and hippopotamus.' It doesn't mean the hippo will eat you, it means the person really wanted his tomb to be protected. Zahi Hawass See you later, alligator. After a while, crocodile. Bill Haley The Allegator is the same, as the Crocodile, and differs only in Name. John Lawson |
