Books aren't written - they're rewritten. Including your own. It is one of the hardest things to accept, especially after the seventh rewrite hasn't quite done it.

Michael Crichton The greatest of all the Sioux in my time, or in any time for that matter, was that wonderful old fighting man, Sitting Bull, whose life will some day be written by a historian who can really give him his due. Buffalo Bill I like to feel sexy. I know my husband thinks I'm sexy. I think he is too. But I don't go out half-naked with 'sex' written across my back. Catherine Zeta-Jones You don't want to dwell on your enemies, you know. I basically feel so superior to my critics for the simple reason that they haven't done what I do. Most book reviewers haven't written 11 novels. Many of them haven't written one. John Irving In Fargo, they say, well, that's a job. How well do you get paid? For example, for this book I was written about in Entertainment Weekly, and it was kind of cool because my mom asked me if Entertainment Weekly was a magazine or a newspaper. Chuck Klosterman To me, every interview, even if you love the artist, needs to be somewhat adversarial. Which doesn't mean you need to attack the person, but you do need to look at it like you're trying to get information that has not been written about before. Chuck Klosterman That's an aspect of this business which can be very frustrating and aggravating. Most of what is written about you is wrong and so much of what does get printed is often about personal things that you don't want to have other people read about. Winona Ryder I actually may do a musical next year... not one that I've written; one that I may star in. Plus my concert and other people's work and all of a sudden you've got a very full life. Harvey Fierstein A scholar is like a book written in a dead language. It is not every one that can read in it. William Hazlitt Speech is human nature itself, with none of the artificiality of written language. Alfred North Whitehead All I write about is what's happened to me and to people I know, and the better I know them, the more likely they are to be written about. Norman MacCaig Of the individual poems, some are more lyric and some are more descriptive or narrative. Each poem is fixed in a moment. All those moments written or read together take on the movement and architecture of a narrative. Marilyn Hacker Every script I've written and every series I've produced have expressed the things I most deeply believe. Michael Landon When you try to unravel something you've written, you belittle it in a way. It was created as a mystery. Don DeLillo If a secret history of books could be written, and the author's private thoughts and meanings noted down alongside of his story, how many insipid volumes would become interesting, and dull tales excite the reader! William Makepeace Thackeray Fate is written in the face. Federico Fellini I honestly don't class myself as a songwriter. I've got 'musician' written on my passport. That's even funnier. Robert Smith I think Bridge Over Troubled Water was a very good song. Artie sang it beautifully. The Boxer was a really nice record. But I don't think I've written any great songs. Paul Simon You're a song written by the hands of God. Shakira The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenements halls and whispered in the sounds of silence. Paul Simon |
