I should like to say that I am as proud of my Chinese heritage and background as I am devoted to modern science, a part of human civilization of Western origin, to which I have dedicated and I shall continue to dedicate my work.

Chen Ning Yang I then moved to the University of Western Ontario where I was made a full professor in 1985. J. Philippe Rushton I think clearly the United States, as well as other western nations, should stand by their commitments to human rights and democracy and should try to influence other countries to move in that direction. Samuel P. Huntington I think for the last fifteen, twenty years or so, Hollywood has underestimated the appeal of the Western. I think there is still a huge market. Barry Corbin I think Russian people are learning that democracy is not an alien thing; it's not a western invention. Garry Kasparov I think you will find scientists that think like you in Germany and Britain, and you will find politicians that think like Weinberger. I think the most bellicose ruling group in the Western world at the moment is the British. E. P. Thompson I used to listen to country and western and blues, John Lee Hooker, spirituals, the Bluegrass Boys, and Eddie Arnold. There was a radio station that come on everyday with country, spirituals, and the blues. Otis Rush I very much feel that marriage is a sacrament and that sacrament should extend... to that legal entity of a union between what traditionally in our Western values has been defined as between a man and a woman. Bill Frist I wanted to star in a western opposite Robert Redford. That was my plan for my life. Dyan Cannon I was a fighter pilot, flying Hurricanes all round the Mediterranean. I flew in the Western Desert of Libya, in Greece, in Syria, in Iraq and in Egypt. Roald Dahl I was always looking ahead. I used to do all kinds of things for entertainment. When I was young, we had no radio, no TV. We were 30 miles from the public library, out in the sticks in Western Kansas, and so I'd do arithmetic exercises. Clyde Tombaugh I was familiar with that and 'Rio Bravo.' 'Rio Bravo' was what John Carpenter did, that brilliant move of taking a western and turning it into an urban flick. And from there you got, you know, all the cop genre movies of the time. John Leguizamo I was in love with this character of Ray Krebbs. I wanted the part badly. I had done several Western films in my career at that point and there wasn't much opportunity then to play Western roles on television at that time. Steve Kanaly I was interested in both Western and Indian classical music. Satyajit Ray I was paid to read Western economic texts. In a way, the regime paid for their own undermining. Vaclav Klaus I wonder if those people shown protesting the deployment of nuclear weapons to western Europe during the Reagan era are feeling appropriately stupid today. 'Please don't take away our precious Soviet Union! - We demand the annihilation of all life on Earth!' Craig Bruce I would love to do a Western again if Westerns came back into fashion. Bruce Boxleitner I wouldn't say when you've seen one Western you've seen the lot; but when you've seen the lot you get the feeling you've seen one. Katharine Whitehorn I, for one, begin with intent. There is no question that, Saddam Hussein had intent to do harm to the Western alliance and to the United States of America. Tommy Franks I'd love to do a Western. A real Western like John Ford used to do. There's not too many of them made, so I don't know if I'll ever get to do that. They're awfully hard movies to make. Dennis Farina |
