But I'm not adverse to the idea of Torch Song as a musical. It would just be different. Because the play will always be there exactly as it was, and in a musical you could tell a lot of the story through songs.

Harvey Fierstein I'm sure there's going to be some material from This Is Not Going To Be Pretty. I usually use that song to just introduce myself to the audience, although the patter in between the song is always different. Harvey Fierstein In Torch Song, I did that character almost non-stop from 1978 until I made the movie in 1987. Then I had some failure, which also colors how you react to doing other things. Harvey Fierstein In an age of incompetence, I've been able to last in this crazy business. I actually know how to play my ax and write a song. That's my job. Billy Joel I did write a letter to the archdiocese who'd banned the song, Only the Good Die Young, asking them to ban my next record. Billy Joel You could write a song about some kind of emotional problem you are having, but it would not be a good song, in my eyes, until it went through a period of sensitivity to a moment of clarity. Without that moment of clarity to contribute to the song, it's just complaining. Joni Mitchell You can say things a million times, but if you can't sing it, then it really isn't much of a song. Justin Timberlake When something is bothering me, I write a song that tells my feelings. Loretta Lynn We had our unhappy moments but they got channelled into the kind of sadness that was necessary for singing a song about going nowhere. So it worked out very well I think. Tina Weymouth With every song that I write, I compare it to the Beatles. The thing is, they only got there before me. If I'd been born at the same time as John Lennon, I'd have been up there. Noel Gallagher I'm still proud of what I've done, even if it hasn't been the biggest song on the radio or hasn't gone to number one. Faith Hill The song This Kiss was definitely my breakthrough song. After that, Breathe was my breakthrough album. Faith Hill I don't care about the rules. In fact, if I don't break the rules at least 10 times in every song then I'm not doing my job properly. Jeff Beck Back when I was jamming with Axl and the guys they had boxes of cassettes with song ideas. How do you know which ones you like now when you have that many ideas. Zakk Wylde Because, in opera, I have to sing for people that are very far from me, instead of, when I sing a song, I try to imagine to sing like in an ear of a child. Andrea Bocelli You don't really know a song until you play it live. Robert Smith You're a song written by the hands of God. Shakira Each time I play a song it seems more real. Robert Smith Like I can't cry for myself so I will let this song take all of the things inside I can't let anyone else see and offer it up, as if the sound were some kind of god, and my pain is some kind of sacrifice. Robert Smith Sometimes I'll get to the end of a song, open my eyes and there's all these faces peering at me. It's quite horrifying. Robert Smith |
