For me, how I feel about what I wrote down turns into a song.

Geddy Lee Then, once I have lyrics, being able to shape them around a song is nothing new for me, I've been doing that for 25 years. The soul searching part of it, the spontaneous part of it, that was, and remains, a really terrific process. Geddy Lee I feel safe and comfortable to do that once I know that the song structure around the bass part is very interesting and it satisfies me in a compositional sense. Geddy Lee Sometimes it's nice to have a song that can be taken more then one way, so it can be interpreted differently. Geddy Lee That is what intrigues me; songwriting and song structure and expression. Geddy Lee I am moved more by melodies, song structure, and evocative textures. Geddy Lee People try to keep their past, like kind of holding on to their past. Every Springsteen song talks about that. John Cusack That folk music led to learning to play, and making things up led to what turns out to be the most lucrative part of the music business - writing, because you get paid every time that song gets played. Jackson Browne I wrote the song For A Dancer for a friend of mine who died in a fire. He was in the sauna in a house that burned down, so he had no idea anything was going on. It was very sad. Jackson Browne I'd have to say that my favorite thing is writing a song that really says how I feel, what I believe - and it even explains the world to myself better than I knew it. Jackson Browne People assume that the meaning of a song is vested in the lyrics. To me, that has never been the case. There are very few songs that I can think of where I remember the words. Brian Eno In the 1960s, people were trying to get away from the pop song format. Tracks were getting longer, or much, much shorter. Brian Eno I'm not interested in possible complexities. I regard song structure as a graph paper. Brian Eno I had written lyrics to a song called The Silent Extreme, which Alex later renamed Humans Being. Sammy Hagar The video forum for me has been a source of great consternation because once you start projecting a look to a song, it robs the listener of their ability to adopt that song and make the lyric their own. Sheryl Crow A song that sounds simple is just not that easy to write. One of the objectives of this record was to try and write melodies that continue to resonate. Sheryl Crow Beck said he didn't believe in the theory of a song coming through you as if you were an open vessel. I agree with him to a certain extent. Sheryl Crow I don't set goals for myself too much, but I'm always trying to write that one great song. Sheryl Crow I have yet to write that one song that defines my career. Sheryl Crow If there's a song where there's a possibility of guitar stuff that would be fun to listen to, go for it. Don't worry about what anybody thinks. Brad Paisley |
