The idea was to come up with a song that had the same kind of feeling and inspiration as Fame and yet be different from Fame. I certainly didn't want to do Fame II.

Irene Cara I was five years old when I wrote my first song. It was out of longing for my father that I wrote it. Shmuel Y. Agnon Most musicians count at the beginning, and never count and talk to their musicians after that. They only talk to them at the end of the song. But I would count with them and talk. Roy Ayers I have a pleasant voice, but I have no great range. I will say that I know how to make a song come alive and I guess I do have a sincerity that comes across. But I do alot of things better than sing. Irene Cara I make no claim that Jewish culture is superior to other cultures or that the Jewish song is better than the song of my neighbor. Theodore Bikel When you write a song you have an idea of how it should be sung but it doesn't work out that way if someone else records it. Barry Gibb I do not mind having written the song at all. I just wish that I had written it in a different key, as the high d is hard to play. I am glad that I wrote something that brought joy to millions of people. Chuck Mangione Then, in that hour of deliverance, my heart spoke. Does not such a country, and such defenders of their country, deserve a song? Francis Scott Key It can even be a single note which defines the entire song. Leon Redbone The vocals are what immediately draw people in and sell the song. Jerry Harrison To this day I get mail from women who say, I went to law school because of your song. But I would hate to think out of the wide spectrum of things I have done in my career, that's all I would be remembered for. Helen Reddy We can't forget what happened on May 4th, 1970, when four students gave up their lives because they had the American constitutional right of peaceful protest. They gave up their lives. And to sing that song in that spot on that anniversary was very emotional for us. Graham Nash I thought Jennifer was lovely in Flashdance, but I'm not greedy. I was very happy to have done the song. Irene Cara The soprano has all those other instruments in it. It's got the soprano song voice, flute, violin, clarinet, and tenor elements and can even approach the baritone in intensity. Steve Lacy Artists don't always know. Almost every song I ever recorded that was a hit at the majors that the promotional people picked I didn't think it would be a hit. I was wrong every time! Roy Ayers What you hear about the band is always going to be more disturbing than any particular song. Daisy Berkowitz I've never written a song that I thought was a hit. Richard Marx Everything is Song. Everything is Silence. Since it all turns out to be illusion, perfectly being what it is, having nothing to do with good or bad, you are free to die laughing. James Broughton Even if you're specific about the character of the song, it's more exciting to place them, juxtapose them in such a way as to make an adventure out of the sequence of the songs. Robert Wyatt Just with the basic one guitar, one piano and one vocal and an audience, I think that the intimacy comes through more. People feel much more connected to the song because there's nothing in the way, and I actually enjoy doing that. Graham Nash |
