I get a trickling few scripts that I'm lucky enough that some of them are great. I don't get loads of scripts.

Meryl Streep I get sent a lot of scripts which feature him as a kind of all-purpose Victorian literary character and really understand little, if anything, about him, his life or his books. Simon Callow I have been reading scripts, going to auditions and looking for the right opportunities. Kevin Richardson I have come close to producing films. But generally by the time they hit the screen, there's about 50 people with producer credits, so what's the point. I usually find scripts I like with no money attached and take them to producers that I know and try to raise finance. Tim Roth I know a lot of people in the business recommend the many Story Structure seminars being offered here, but I point to them as the single biggest contributor to lousy scripts. Douglas Wood I loved the material when I first read it, and the experience of making the film was a great one. So when we came around to complete the trilogy, I just signed on board without even reading the scripts because the experience of the first film was so good. Keanu Reeves I mean, I've sold all these scripts and nothing's been made. Studios have closed, stars have died. I had a director find Jesus. And the pictures just don't get made. Bruce Vilanch I never do any television without chocolate. That's my motto and I live by it. Quite often I write the scripts and I make sure there are chocolate scenes. Actually I'm a bit of a chocolate tart and will eat anything. It's amazing I'm so slim. Dawn French I never examined what I did in any great detail because I thought it would spoil things. I never read the scripts at all carefully, and never wanted to know what was going on, because I felt that being a benevolent alien that's the way it should be. Tom Baker I read a lot of scripts. Most of 'em go to other actors. Sam Elliott I spent as much time writing proposals in '98 and '99 as I did writing scripts. Mark Millar I started writing movie scripts. They excited me a lot, but I didn't like them when they were finished because they were simple copies of the films I saw in childhood. Manuel Puig I think when you're a bigger star you get many good scripts sent to you, and you have to choose which one you're going to gravitate toward, but I just try to gravitate toward the best-written one that's been thrown my way after a lot of girls have passed on it. Amanda Peet I want to aspire to something like what Denzel Washington does, which is try to find scripts written for white actors - or Jodie Foster, who reads scripts for male actors. Wentworth Miller I was looking to become more proactive with my career because I wasn't crazy with some of the scripts I was getting - this was before Blow and Hannibal - so I decided to start my own production company. Ray Liotta I was not the kind of a principal player that was so in demand that eight or 10 or 12 scripts came per month. Sidney Poitier I was reading through endless junk scripts that were being sent my way. Typically the roles were to play his wife or his girlfriend - leading roles for women were few and far between. Roma Downey I wish in my own mind I were more definite - that I was absolutely convinced I'd never direct someone else's script, but I keep reading scripts, because I might find something. Paul Mazursky I won't be able to do what I'm doing forever. There aren't that many scripts floating around for fifty-year-old chicks. Cher I would not have so many scripts being driven by demographics. The play's the thing - not the 18-35 year old male age group. Stephen Tobolowsky |
