I'm not photographing the model in the classic sense; the model is playing a part in my photographs. It's more like theater. I always work with models I know, and I let them participate in deciding how to act their part.

Kim Weston I've looked at photographs of myself during concerts and it sometimes looks as if I'm in a fencing move, with a guitar in my hands instead of a sword. Neil Diamond If we limit our vision to the real world, we will forever be fighting on the minus side of things, working only too make our photographs equal to what we see out there, but no better. Galen Rowell If you meet people who have been successful in Hollywood, or look a their photographs, you see a haunted look in their eyes, you sense a trapped feeling. Meg Tilly In my photographs it is apparent that there was no posing at the moment I released the shutter. Jerzy Kosinski In the photographs themselves there's a definite contrast between the figures and the location - I like that kind of California backyard look; clapboard houses, staircases outdoors. Helmut Newton In this first testing ground of the atomic bomb I have seen the most terrible and frightening desolation in four years of war. It makes a blitzed Pacific island seem like an Eden. The damage is far greater than photographs can show. Wilfred Burchett It doesn't matter what you do, as long as you're fulfilling that inner need, and for me the need is more the process than the finished product. My photographs are stories of the process. Kim Weston It is, alas, chiefly the evil emotions that are able to leave their photographs on surrounding scenes and objects and whoever heard of a place haunted by a noble deed, or of beautiful and lovely ghosts revisiting the glimpses of the moon? Algernon H. Blackwood Life is not significant details, illuminated by a flash, fixed forever. Photographs are. Susan Sontag Many of the critics today get airline tickets, hotel accommodation, bags, beautiful photographs, gifts and other expenses paid by the distributors, and then are supposed to write serious articles about the movie. Wim Wenders My knowledge of the state of President Roosevelt's health was derived entirely from conversations, from newspaper articles and from photographs. David Bruce My mountaineering skills are not important to my best photographs, but they do add a component to my work that is definitely a bit different than that of most photographers. Galen Rowell My photographs are not planned or composed in advance, and I do not anticipate that the onlooker will share my viewpoint. However, I feel that if my photograph leaves an image on his mind, something has been accomplished. Robert Frank My photographs don't do me justice - they just look like me. Phyllis Diller No one could possibly look all the time like my photographs. It is dreadfully hard to live up to them. They stare at me everywhere. Anna Held No, I do a bunch of things to entertain myself. I paint, I make music, I take photographs. Charlie Hunnam Not everybody trusts paintings but people believe photographs. Ansel Adams Our dreams are made of real things, like a shoebox full of photographs. Jack Johnson Our photographs are filthier and our stories are more disgusting. We make no effort to be artistic.
