The number of strokes to the inch controls the pitch of the note: the more, the higher the pitch; the fewer, the lower the pitch, the size of the stroke controls the loudness... the tone quality is the most difficult element to control, it is made by the shape of the strokes.

Norman McLaren The war was declared over - the end of major combat operations - in May 2003. Release procedures got under way immediately; reducing the population from 8,000 to just over 300, of course, requires fewer military police soldiers. Janis Karpinski There are fewer and fewer Republicans. Greg Dworkin There's a terrible truth for many women in the picture business: Aging typically takes its toll and means fewer and less desirable roles. Maureen O'Hara There's much to be said for feeling numb. Time passes more quickly. You eat less, and because numbness encourages laziness, you do fewer things, good or bad, and the world's probably a better place for it. Doug Coupland Unfortunately, the elimination of incentives such as parole, good time credits and funding for college courses, means that fewer inmates participate in and excel in literacy, education, treatment and other development programs. Bobby Scott Used as kites, these rigid stable aeroplanes are superior to the very best cellular kites I can make; they are lighter, pull harder per square foot, attain a greater angle of elevation, and have fewer parts. Lawrence Hargrave War doesn't need more participants. It needs fewer participants. Michael Badnarik We are entering a new phase in human history - one in which fewer and fewer workers will be needed to produce the goods and services for the global population. Jeremy Rifkin We are scheduled to meet this year fewer days than any Congress since at least 1948. And that is even before I was born. So far, we are in the 123rd day of this year, and yet we have only had 26 voting days in this body. That is a shame. Jim Cooper We have increasingly fewer and fewer journalists who have any military experience and understand what life is like in the military and in combat. Jim Lehrer We should have a great fewer disputes in the world if words were taken for what they are, the signs of our ideas only, and not for things themselves. John Locke What the Democrats don't seem to understand is that higher taxes mean fewer American jobs and less American production. Lynn Westmoreland When I entered medical physics in 1958 there were fewer than 100 in the U.S. and I could see many opportunities to apply my knowledge of nuclear physics. John Cameron While day by day the overzealous student stores up facts for future use, he who has learned to trust nature finds need for ever fewer external directions. He will discard formula after formula, until he reaches the conclusion: Let nature take its course. Larry Bird Would it be better if I'd married a Negro woman? Would they treat my child any better? Erect fewer barriers? Sammy Davis, Jr. You know the good part about all those executions in Texas? Fewer Texans. George Carlin You need a very, exceptionally clear vision. And to me, a vision is something that you can say in one sentence. The fewer the words the better. Ron Johnson |
