Jose Ortega Y Gasset We imagine that we want to escape our selfish and commonplace existence, but we cling desperately to our chains. Anne Sullivan Macy We know how powerful our mother was when we were little, but is our wife that powerful to us now? Must we relive our great deed of escape from Mama with every other woman in our life? Frank Pittman We need to take command of the solar system to gain that wealth, and to escape the sea of paper our government is becoming, and for some decent chance of stopping a Dinosaur Killer asteroid. Larry Niven We spend more time developing means of escaping our troubles than we do solving the troubles we're trying to escape from. David Lloyd We're so trendy we can't even escape ourselves. Kurt Cobain What a sense of superiority it gives one to escape reading some book which everyone else is reading. Alice James What is needed, rather than running away or controlling or suppressing or any other resistance, is understanding fear; that means, watch it, learn about it, come directly into contact with it. We are to learn about fear, not how to escape from it. Jiddu Krishnamurti When I was a child and teenager I read whenever I had the opportunity, but since then I've found it hard to read as much as I'd like, children, work, and pets all providing powerful incentives to escape into a book and a practical reason why I rarely do so. Louise Brown When I write down my thoughts, they do not escape me. This action makes me remember my strength which I forget at all times. I educate myself proportionately to my captured thought. I aim only to distinguish the contradiction between my mind and nothingness. Isidore Ducasse Lautreamont With some people solitariness is an escape not from others but from themselves. For they see in the eyes of others only a reflection of themselves. Eric Hoffer Words really flattering are not those which we prepare but those which escape us unthinkingly. Ninon de Lenclos Writing is a form of therapy; sometimes I wonder how all those who do not write, compose or paint can manage to escape the madness, melancholia, the panic and fear which is inherent in a human situation. Graham Greene You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today. Abraham Lincoln |
