I merely took the energy it takes to pout and wrote some blues.

Duke Ellington I not only played and sang blues, but I also had to toss the piano around a bit to amuse the patrons. Hope Emerson I really appreciate when someone can blow me away with live acoustic blues. Johnny Winter I sang in church growing up. Memphis is the blues capital of the world, we like to say. Justin Timberlake I spent a few years here in Memphis, in the late '70s and early '80s, where I was studying a lot of country blues players and their styles. So it seems like every record I'll do, I will appropriate these blues styles that I remember. Alex Chilton I started playing ukulele first for 2 years from age 9 to 11 and got my first guitar and got inspired by blues I heard on the radio that turned me on and I started learning myself. Johnny Winter I stayed with them for about a year up there and, at night, worked over in Long Island at a club called The High Hat Club which was like a pseudo jazz / blues place. William Bell I still like to play the blues more than anything else. Christine McVie I still think the best metal bands have a blues feel. The first Black Sabbath album is kind of a bludgeoning of blues. Deep Purple also started out as a blues band. Greg Ginn I suppose I was waiting until I was old enough to have some sort of experience to sing about. When you're young, it's hard to sing the blues. Nobody believes you. Nick Lowe I tend to play a lot of blues things at home, because most blues things are basically within a 12-bar pattern. Marc Bolan I think a guy who's had just the right amount of booze can sing the blues a hell of a lot better than a guy who is stone sober. Charlie Rich I think it was that we were really seasoned musicians. We had serious roots that spanned different cultures, obviously the blues. Jimmy Page I think it will always be around it just takes one person to make people aware of the blues. Johnny Winter I think the blues is fine for blues players, but free blues has never made much sense to me. Derek Bailey I think the blues will always be around. People need it. Johnny Winter I use rock and jazz and blues rhythms because I love that music. I hope my poetry has a relationship with good-time rock'n roll. Adrian Mitchell I used to listen to country and western and blues, John Lee Hooker, spirituals, the Bluegrass Boys, and Eddie Arnold. There was a radio station that come on everyday with country, spirituals, and the blues. Otis Rush I wanna record these girls individually. And then, I wanna cut a blues album on me. But all of it, original stuff, you know. When I listen to the blues today, it's like they all sounds similar. I wanna do something different, to try to add to the blues flavor. Ike Turner I wanna show that gospel, country, blues, rhythm and blues, jazz, rock 'n' roll are all just really one thing. Those are the American music and that is the American culture. Etta James |
