One of the pleasant duties of America's most famous announcers during the relatively short swing era of the big bands was to host late-night remotes from some of the most famous ballrooms throughout the country.

Nick Clooney One thing I love to do is produce. I've produced a couple of bands. I mean, nothing ever really happened with 'em, but I enjoy getting a young band into the studio and guiding them, and making them feel at ease. Ace Frehley Other bands gave us lip service, but when it came down to it they kind of backed off. That was a little disheartening. But I respect them. That's their business. Mike McCready Our first gig was a battle of the bands. We did 45 minutes of comedy and never played a note - and we won! Cheech Marin People make such a big deal about how people in bands look, especially if you're a girl. Juliana Hatfield Punk rock really influenced me, the basic metal bands, Zeppelin, Stones and Floyd, and Southern rock bands. I think I was pretty well-rounded. Al Jourgensen Sadly, I've seen a lot of bands hit that sort of peak and then eventually start supporting again, you know, which we will never do. We always put a lot of thought into the way that we are going to go, and we always change. Glenn Tipton So I've had lots of different bands over the years who have stayed with me for certain tours. Joan Armatrading So it was out of necessity that Blackheart was born. I think it's great that now, 25 years later, we're not only putting out our own music, but are able to put out music by other bands. That's really exciting for us. Joan Jett So when bands work with me and it's 10 o'clock, usually you'd have to be getting out of the studio, we could go on until 2 in the morning cause it's my place! Billy Sherwood That taught me one lesson which is that you're naive to believe that bands can change the world. Bands are very naive to think that just if their audience thinks that they can change the world, that they can. That was quite a lesson for my career, really. Billy Bragg That's one of the problems with making music your business, it becomes a business. You're no longer just this kid who is a fan and going to see every show. I've been in a bar every night for the last 15 years. Going to see bands for me is work. Mojo Nixon That's what so sad about a lot of modern music, in my opinion, so many young bands never stay around long enough to fulfill their ultimate promise. They only get halfway there or a quarter of the way there. Alan Vega The '80s were the worst period. You had these horrible pop bands growing their hair and calling themselves metal. Geezer Butler The average life spans of many bands are not that long, up to five years if they are lucky. Mike McCready The band would play on the night off for the local hotel bands and we'd back all the different acts. So I'd been advised by good friends of mine to come back to Hawaii. Oh, I loved Honolulu, playing at a place right on the beach at Waikiki! Martin Denny The bands that wrote the big, heroic rock songs - I really wanted to make a record like that. Sheryl Crow The Beatles, the Small Faces and the Kinks were great bands, but that was in the '60s. Gavin Rossdale The English scene got more media attention with their emphasis on fashion, with the safety pins and all. There were some really good bands over there. The Sex Pistols were great. Greg Ginn The first Decline I did was out of sheer love and appreciation for the music. In 1977, it was more about bands, because punk was a new form of music. It was groundbreaking and political.
