I like all music. Well, I don't like music that was created to make money. I don't really like bands that don't write their own music.

James Marsters I like to open for a band as it brings on sort of a challenge and it makes things more interesting. It reminds me of when we were just starting out because we would open for other bands in the beginning. Kelly Jones I listened to a lot of bands that were happening at the time, but no one in particular. Caroline Corr I love doing stuff with Todd Barry and Jon Benjamin. We give the stage to good bands and funny people. David Cross I love Les Beaux Peeps. Everyone in that band works together really well. I used to go out to see bands a lot; now it seems there just aren't any I like. Clea Duvall I mean I think that Blondie's influence is a little bit in a way more eclectic than those bands. Debbie Harry I mean people have compared us to like the Grateful Dead and all these like psychedelic sixties bands. Jon Fishman I mean, most of it is probably more obscure and just more noisy than either of those two bands, but Thurston has stuff all the time that he's involved with that is fairly obscure and experimental. Kim Gordon I meet many people, I talk with them, like a TV show host. I show what's going on with Greenpeace, interesing political things, I have artists, musicians and bands. Nina Hagen I named it that because more or less each person from the band used to play in other bands and when we left respective bands other members from those bands all sort of changed round. It was a big sort of move thing. I got it from that, I suppose. Roy Wood I played in rhumba bands, mickey mouse bands; all kinds of bands. Stan Getz I quit the tax job then and decided that I was going to play in a band. I answered ads in the Village Voice and went through two days of auditioning for bands. Robert Quine I started going to Madame Louise's, the lesbian club where all the punk bands used to go - the Sex Pistols, the Clash. I remember seeing Billy Idol walk in there; he was gorgeous. Boy George I started listening to and playing other music in the '90s. It was after hearing other bands, like Bad Religion, cover Ramones songs that I started to like our songs again. Dee Dee Ramone I still think the best metal bands have a blues feel. The first Black Sabbath album is kind of a bludgeoning of blues. Deep Purple also started out as a blues band. Greg Ginn I think it would be very scary and very confusing if I didn't understand where people are coming from, but I've felt the exact same way for so many other bands, growing up. It's not really a big deal. Jon Crosby I think now, more than anytime I can remember, bands are sounding pretty similar whether they're English or American, from Manchester or London... or Leeds or Welsh or Irish. Graham Coxon I think that the old Mothers started that trend of rehearsing long hours. We went as long as the later bands did except we didn't get paid for it like they did. Jimmy Carl Black I think that the quality of all bands is steadily improving and it is a pleasant thought to me that perhaps the efforts of Sousa's Band have quickened that interest and improved that quality. John Philip Sousa I think that's given inspiration to other musicians. I know, particularly through the 90s, a lot of bands would cite Rush as an influence. I don't think it was so much our music, but more the way we really stuck to our guns. Alex Lifeson |
