A couple of guys won Academy Awards for the things that I turned down. Today, after coming to terms with everything, after being in therapy for a long time-there are areas where I will compromise.

Mickey Rourke A lot of my joy this year has been to give away awards to young people, no matter of race, creed or color, because they were a terrific violinist or a terrific dancer. Sally Kirkland Actually, no, because awards don't spark sales as much as you'd think. Chantal Kreviazuk After the enormous success of All About my Mother, all the awards and everything, I wanted to start a movie in exactly the same place that I used to be before. I wanted to show that all of the success had not changed my perception. Pedro Almodovar Also, I've already won all the awards. Neil Gaiman Although I may find the type of programming seen during the 2004 Super Bowl and the 2003 Golden Globe Awards disgusting and disturbing, we must always work hard to defend the cherished freedoms so clearly outlined in our Constitution, including a healthy and free press. Mike Rogers An Oscar means a lot of things because it's like the ultimate award for a filmmaker so it feels great. But I think you have to consider awards with some distance and not get obsessed with it. When you're creating you shouldn't think about it. Alejandro Amenabar At awards time, The Exorcist was nominated in 11 categories, everybody but the janitor was up for an Oscar. There was no category for what I did. Mercedes McCambridge Awards are meaningless to me, and I have nothing but disdain for anyone who actively campaigns to get one. Bill Murray Awards are only a publicity gimmick. Tony Randall Awards are so unnecessary, because I think we get so much out of our work just by doing it. The work is a reward in itself. Natalie Portman Awards are wonderful. I've been nominated many times and I've won many awards. But my journey is not towards that. If it happens it will be a blast. If it doesn't, it's still been a blast. Tom Cruise Awards become corroded, friends gather no dust. Jesse Owens Awards don't really mean much. Uta Hagen Awards mean a lot, but they don't say it all. The people in baseball mean more to me than statistics. Ernie Banks Awards sell tickets, and they're a clever publicity stunt. Tony Randall Awards shows are my greatest inducement to get back into shape. Jane Kaczmarek Awards were made in Hollywood, in whatever the time it was created. They're to promote each other's movies. You give me an award, I give you an award and people will believe that we are great movies and they'll go to see them. It's still the same. Javier Bardem Because of the audience I get and the fact that these people aren't traditional comics buyers I don't think the comic industry looks at that and thinks that is a very respectable thing. I'm very used to it. I'm not the guy who wins awards and gets mentioned in magazines. Jhonen Vasquez Because Olivia Newton-John wasn't from Nashville, they didn't like her winning our awards. I've got no complaints. Loretta Lynn |
