Actors ought to be larger than life. You come across quite enough ordinary, nondescript people in daily life and I don't see why you should be subjected to them on the stage too.

Ninon de L'Enclos You have actors who begin at a certain young age and there's very little change in their technique and the depth of their performances; they're the same 30 years later. Alec Baldwin They can't make any of these talented young actors Fletch. You might as well make a movie called Chevy Chase. Chevy Chase They didn't act like people and they didn't act like actors. It's hard to explain. They acted more like they knew they were celebrities and all. I mean they were good, but they were too good. J. D. Salinger There's something that sort of weirds me out about actors who want to be rock stars, and the other way around too. Gwyneth Paltrow The thing about film-making is I give it everything, that's why I work so hard. I always tell young actors to take charge. It's not that hard. Sign your own cheques, be responsible. Tom Cruise What I find sometimes that is tricky is if actors are using too much of their own life in a picture, in a scene, they get locked into a particular way to play the scene, and it lacks an immediacy. Tom Cruise Some people get into this business and they're so afraid to lose anything. They try to protect their position like clinging to a beachhead. These actors end up making really safe choices. I never wanted to go that route. If I go down, I'm going down swinging. Matt Damon Actors have bodyguards and entourages not because anybody wants to hurt them - who would want to hurt an actor? - but because they want to get recognized. God forbid someone doesn't recognize them. James Caan There's nothing more boring than actors talking about acting. James Caan When you know your cast well and their strengths and weaknesses, you can start writing for them, just the way Shakespeare wrote for his actors. Stephen Sondheim Whatever talent I had, I'm sure it helped that my parents were in the business and that I grew up around actors, comedians and directors. Ben Stiller I got to draw monsters, robots and write funny stories. I loved doing that stuff and working with the actors. But it got to be less and less that stuff and more about trying to be everywhere and not being able to do one thing very enjoyably. Jhonen Vasquez For no. 1, it's great writing, super writing. The second thing is that it's great chemistry with all the actors. We just all got along from the very start. Very get-go, we all got along. We just - it was just like we were all meant to be there together. Reba McEntire When I decided I wanted to be an actor, I said I wanted to work with quality actors and directors. Puff Daddy There are no small parts. Only small actors. Milan Kundera I think all those actors from that generation, like Bogart - they were wonderful actors. They didn't act. They just came on and they did it, and the characters were wonderful. Anthony Hopkins Actors I admire? Ed Harris, or course, I think he's terrific; because I know he always had to fight being what he looked like a lot, but I think he's a terrific actor. Anthony Hopkins I have the absolute utmost respect for soap opera actors now. They work harder than any actor I know in any other medium. And they don't get very much approbation for it. Joan Collins Actors do like watching girls parade down the runway for some reason. Kate Moss |
